Kim, by Rudyard Kipling. A re-read from highschool days.
This has always been my favorite Kipling book. It is about Kim, the son of a drunken Irishman and an Asian mother. Both parents are dead and he roams in the street. He is white, but has always lived among the various cultures of India. It’s an amazing book about the different cultures and religions Kim finds as he crosses India with his Tibetan lama, and as he matches wits not only with everyone on the streets, but with the English colonialists as well.
