A German soldier, part of the forces in France, falls in love with France and and a French bookseller's daughter, often dressing as a French civilian to watch her/catch up with her.

This book was strangely disjointed, and it was often difficult to follow the narrative through. The author's note in the end - about how well researched it was - was particularly distasteful to me.
