A guy I know, Cliff, and I were at the Trolley Stop knocking back some nasty dollar drafts and talking about obscure noize music ("Black Dice is okay, but Daughters blow their shit out of the water"), when we somehow got on the subject of school and our English degrees, and he brought up books and specifically Bret Easton Ellis.
"I loved American Psycho, but Glamorama just didn't hit it for me, you know?" I told him.
"Ugh! You're kidding me!" He held his head with his free hand and made a sudden arm movement with his busy-hand that almost made him spill his Budweiser. We were both tipsy and the crowded bar was competing for attention. "That book is fucking incredible! How can you not like it?!"
"I dunno, man," I said, "it just didn't work for me, you know?"
"Aghhh, but it's soooo good!"
"Yeah, well...I guess I just didn't get it, you know?"
"But that's part of it!"

That conversation was about a year ago. I still don't quite understand this book, but I do understand that Ellis can parody real life with ease.
