Fantastic journalism. I read this after I saw the movie, and I'm glad, because I think they complement each other nicely...it helped to have faces to attach to the main characters on the Andrea Gail and I was impressed at how faithful the film was, especially in depicting the characters of the men described. The book goes much farther in telling the backstories of the Andrea Gail crew members, and also describes in considerable technical detail the buidlup of the storm. It also adds different perspectives, such as national weather trackers' reactions, how the storm affected other vessels, and survivor accounts. Then it seamlessly transitions from known facts to speculation of what happened and vividly immerses the reader in what the Andrea Gail crew may have experienced. Very engaging and absorbing, informative and harrowing...parts of the book left me a bit breathless with dread, and the ending left me feeling sad and a little unfulfilled, which is no doubt an appropriate echo of what...more
