Legacy of Lies starts with a great hook - the discovery of a baby's remains buried in Nicole Matson's grandparent's front yard. Could it be that her sweet, reliable grandfather was involved in the town's most infamous child abduction case? From this beginning, we get an intriguing murder mystery plot, and plenty of internal conflict for the main character.

The romantic subplot between Nicole and the police chief didn't feel 'tacked on', and supplemented the mystery very nicely. Nicole had a very effective character arc through the story. At the beginning, she is still mourning the death of her first husband - a cop who died in the line of duty. The conflict raises out of the fact that she can't let herself fall for another police officer - despite the unwelcome feelings growing inside her.

The characters' Christianity was sprinkled subtly through the tale, but played a powerful part in the emotional climax at the end of the story.

In addition to being a riveting read, this book is a good study in deep point of view. I can see in practice how this method really brings the prose of a book to life. (If you are a writer, be sure to check out "Rivet Your Readers with Deep Point of View" by the same author.)
