I love this series to death. Like, love love LOVE it. And one thing that's great about the series is how many books Karina Halle has given her readers to enjoy the characters and their stories. This story is one based on the Creepy Clown Lady, who was introduced way back in book #1, Darkhouse, and who has made an appearance throughout the series. We learn something about her in book #4, Lying Season, and so this story delves into her history, leading up to certain events that took place in Lying Season.

While I do love the Creepy Clown Lady and all of her creepiness, I wasn't a huge fan of this story. Karina Halle does weave a good story about this character's past and I loved all of the spookier aspects of it, as well as learning more about her connection to the main characters, but I really missed the main characters. I know that wasn't the point of this story, but as with the last book in this series, On Demon Wings, I was so torn about my feelings because I felt that something was missing.

BUT this book is still so necessary to the story and one that should ONLY be read after the fifth book. I definitely finished it wanting to go right back to the first book in the series to relive all of the moments when Perry sees the Creepy Clown Lady, just to see her reactions, as well as reread all of the things the Creepy Clown Lady said. There have been a few novellas in series that I've read that have made me want to do this and I love that one story can make me want to experience it all again!
