As always, Holly Black has a supreme mastery of the nature of Faerie. I continue to be impressed by her characterizations and her understanding of the wonderful, beautiful, cruel and strange behavior of the fey. She doesn't shy away from the ugliness and even terror that are inherent to them. Such an understanding is invaluable, because without it, you can't possibly write a good book about fairies--but with it, your book may be wonderful, just like this one was. She also has a wonderful way of verbally illustrating anything that looks like urban decay, which I can appreciate.

I adored the book; I adored Tithe too. The plot doesn't take any time in picking up either and it's fairly fast-paced from the beginning. I sincerely hope Black is planning on making another book featuring Kaye, since there is quite a bit more she could write on.
