Sadly disappointing. I wanted to like it so much better than I actually did, but such is life.

1. The plot is... sparse. There's not a whole lot too it.
2. That would be ok if the novel were more of a character study. I love those! But it wasn't. We get to know Daisy decently well, but she's sweet and boring, and we don't get too much in depth with the others.
3. It feels like Carey just decided "Hell with it, paranormal romance is raking it in, I need a paycheck" and chucked this out.
4. I hate to say this, but I was expecting it to be, well, a steamy read, given the author. It... is cute, but not at all sexy. In fact, the only sex that happens in the book at all is off screen and it's rape.
5. The conclusion is just so... neat and tidy and boring. I've no desire to re-dip into Penkowet.
6. I'm already guessing that if there's a sequel, Daisy's romantic interests will be split three ways.

Honestly, I should probably rate it as a two, but it was such as fast read, and not as bad as so much of the genre is these days, so it wasn't enough of a waste of time for a 2.

Emily "I hate to say this, but I was expecting it to be, well, a steamy read, given the author."

I was a little disappointed on that front too, especially given how much she teased us about it.
