really liked it
Read in January, 2009

I really liked this book! It was a quick, fun read. And I guess it falls under that "Chick Lit" category, but it had a nice subtle message in the end that I liked. It's about two sisters Ava (the smart one) and Lauren (the pretty one)-- at least that's how they start out. Lauren returns home to LA from New York to be with her family as her mother undergoes treatment for breast cancer. Turns out Lauren is in alot of debt, and Ava, who is a lawyer, interfers and makes Lauren meet with a financial advisor and draws up a contract she makes Lauren sign stating Lauren will curb her spending and become more responsible. Then Lauren finds this "contract" her parents made with some old friends when the girls were young which says Ava is engaged to their son and will marry when they're older. Lauren tracks down Russell, the "fiance" and tries to get the relationship working. Lauren also had a relationship of her own going on with someone she meets at the hospital where her mother receives treatment. In the end this book is about relationships within family, with the opposite sex, trying to be something you're not, but also changing yourself for the better. I liked the fast pace of the book, the dialogue, and the humor too.

But I think my next book will be something heavier though......

Bobbi Woods I am jealous that you have so much time to read...I can only do about 1.5 books per month...grrrr! Plus we have recently gotten into watching the show "24" and we started renting the old seasons on Netflix. So we are in the middle of season 3 and just started with the new season 7 on prime time! Too much Jack Bauer--I prefer books! :-)

Karen Well, I don't know how long this will last! I'm in my January doldrums, and I have no motivation to do anything. So when Hayden is sleeping, instead of keeping up the house or doing a number of projects I have on my list, I curl up with a blanket and read. A girl in my book club set a goal of reading 100 books last year, and actually read 102. That's 2 books a week!! And she's a single mom with two jobs!!! She says she reads really fast. So I was inspired and decided to try to read 25 books in 2009, which is like one every two weeks. Bruce joined in the fun and set a goal of 3 books!! He's so funny, he only reads magazines, but has started reading a book on the train to and from work and is enjoying it, hence the goal of 3 books.
