There were some parts of this book that I quite liked. I'm always a fan of a trickster god (it reminds me of Eugenides from the Queen's Thief series, which is always a good thing), and the idea of clans living out in the desert with their own deity representing them was quite cool. Other things, though, not so much. The love/like/who-knows-what? triangle? square? hexagon? (I'm not sure what to call this)was so confusing and kind of squicky. All of the romance felt kind of forced and unnecessary. It doesn't have to be in every young adult book and I don't think it needed to be in this one in order to give readers a satisfying conclusion.

Still, the book was compelling enough for me to read in a little over a day, so make of that what you will (though if we're being honest,I must say that I read the last third of the book to avoid doing an unpleasant task). My reactions may or may not be the norm here, so you ought to give the book a try to see whether or not you agree.
