I finished this 5th part of the 7 part saga last weekend. I think the reason I like Stephen King's Dark Tower series so much is that I basically don't like Stephen King's writing. And the Dark Tower is different from his usual horror-junked garbage. It's an epic tale that takes a rag-tag team of heroes through a fantasy adventure. Yes, there is the grim horror filled "Kingesque" style to it but even the master of horror himself will tell you that the Tower series is unlike his usual work. What I liked most was the western story feel where the heroes roll into town and prepare to save the village from the evil that looms on the horizon. What I hated most was not remembering a damn thing from the other 4 books. I'll have to re-read them in order sometime. But for now it's on to part 6.

Greg Your commments are interesting. I find most all of his horror/suspense work far superior in the actual quality of writing than the Dark Tower works. I would agree that there is a lot of "horror-junked garbage" out there, but King's work is the top of the heap and is actually far better than this stuff, despite how proud he is of this universe.
