The book wherein Roland draws his partners on the quest for the Dark Tower is a little more entertaining than the dark and serious first entry. Roland's clashes with modern society are amusing, and I found the backstories of Eddie Dean the junkie and Susannah the schizophrenic wholly fascinating. Their human personalities help temper Roland's Western archetype and make for a much more relatable story, adding humor and depth.
