The tale starts with Shift the Ape finding a lion skin and making Puzzle the donkey wear it to pretend to be Aslan. Then we meet King Tirian and his faithful friend, Jewel the unicorn. They set out to put things right in Narnia and everything falls apart. Fortunately Jill Pole & Eustace Scrubb are sent from our world into Narnia. Soon a battle ensues and all seems to be lost until they are thrown one-by-one into a dark stable to an unknown fate that is different than any of them had ever imagined.

I have never liked this last book in the Chronicles of Narnia. I get very sad in the first 2/3 of the book...the lies and manipulation on the part of Shift...the terrible way that the Calormen treat the free Narnians...the treachery of the dwarfs. Then Aslan comes and, while I am still saddened by the story, all is made right, more right than you could guess. So, it's not my favourite, but it is a decent tale.
