it was amazing
bookshelves: fiction
Read in February, 2009

I was intrigued by her exploration of isolation. Although the characters share moments that are intimate (in very different ways), there are pieces missing because of class, background and even interest that prevent them from understanding each other. Thrity Umrigar does a great job of showing us the whole picture, but also the limited perspective of each character so that we understand why they remain isolated. I really liked this book, but also found it pretty heartbreaking.

Rebecca What did you make of the ending? Was this redeeming? Are we suppose to see Bhima as a pillar of resiliency and hope?

I love how you picked up on the isolation that Umrigar imposes on each character. I hadn't really thought much about it until after reading your review.
