** spoiler alert ** Great teen fantasy, with loads of atmosphere. Nia meets Wolfboy, so called by her because of his propensity to howl and his lupine characteristics. He calls her Wildgirl because she is so full of life. Together they spend a night in Shyness, a suburb that has been taken over by darkness, and where the rules of normal life have been replaced by a new set of norms. It is a grubby, rundown, and dangerous world, where the darkness has had some strange effects on some of its inhabitants, including Wolfboy, who is becoming more wolffish as the darkness lingers.

Wildgirl and Wolfboy make a strong connection that lasts even when Nia has to return to her life outside of Shyness. The fact that the darkness is never explained, nor Wolfboy's condition does not detract from this wonderful novel.
