I just finished "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" - read it in about a week and would have given it 3.5 stars if goodreads had the option. This book started out slow (bogged down by too much history on the Dominican Republic and unneeded foot notes) but once it got going it really got going and I couldn’t put it down. TBWLOOW tells the story of the De León family and the unfortunate multi-generational curse ( or Fuku – curse or doom of some kind) they suffer. The title named protagonist, Oscar, is a loveable character that we just don't get enough since the book shifts from his story to the stories of his family and ancestors.

Only complaint I have about this book, is that the author used a lot of(untranslatable)Spanish phrases which made me feel like I was missing important dialogue - other than that I really enjoyed it.
