This book started out promising, but went flat pretty quick. At times I enjoyed reading about the women's lives, but most of the time the author focused too much on the menial parts of their lives. Reading about the lives of English war brides COULD be extremely interesting, but it was lacking in this book. Throughout the whole book I was bored and didn't like how slow it was. Then suddenly in the last few chapters it fast forwards to the mid 1990s when the women meet again. It left a few questions unanswered and left me wondering about a lot of things. I didn't like the ending because it rounded up the book too quickly and left me thinking "what the hell?!".
It's historically pretty accurate so if you're looking for something to give you an insight into the lives of war brides, this book wouldn't be a complete waste of time, but be prepared to spend a long time on it because the boredom of the middle chapters will seem like eternity to read.
