I learned how interconnected the "stans" are, and how easily terrorists can slip from one to the other. This was good background information to what will surely become a larger conflict in Afghanistan. The climbers and their support travel people were woefully ignorant of the political situation and should never have been in that area. Interesting discussion of climbing techinques. This book began as an article in "Outside" magazine--that would have sufficed.
