Jameson Rook seems more cartoonish in Frozen Heat that he has in previous installments, but it may be that I am just reaching my tolerance point on this score. The novel does address Nikki Heat's mother's murder, however, in an entertaining, if rather unbelievable way. I wish the TV show would do the same and get on with other plot lines! The chemistry among the detectives of the squad is quite good and the addition of some friends and colleagues from other units worked well here.
