Fresh Kills

An Artie Cohen mystery set in contemporary New York. Of course, I'll read it. It's a tour of the New York Russian immigrant community. Stacks of people come and go, all seem to be Italians married to Russians and all seem to be related to each other. Children are killed, don't know why. Artie's nephew is a suspect. There are a bunch of bad guys chasing him. Lots of cigarettes are smoked, lots of driving around NYC, lots of unrequited love. In the end, you don't really know why the children are killed.
The plot's shallow, the characters are unengaging, the dialogue's repetitive and not very clever. What's one of these mysteries without a good simile. The big mystery is why I finished this book.
