Baby is a teenager who's been through the foster care system for several years; her mother, a drug addict, deserted her, though Baby hopes to one day see her again. Now Baby is staying at the rural New England home of the Potters, and learning to race sled dogs. She is reluctantly getting settled in, but when her boyfriend shows up to take her away to live on the streets again, she is happy to go with him--and she steals a dog from the Potters. Will she fall into Bobby's drug dealing ways? Will she do even worse things in order to keep him happy? What will become of the dog and the nice couple she left behind? baby has to decide for herself what life is best for her. Really good book about choices and the life of a runaway, and also a great depiction of sled dog culture. (that was the part I liked best!)
