A Notorious Countess Confesses fits the book. Evie Duggan has done what she can to survive in society and to take care of her brother and sister (including her sister's children). She rose from being a courtesan to a countess when she married the Earl, rumored that he who won her in a card game. When a scandal is rumored that Evie has killed her husband, the Earl with her sexual appetite, she fled London to her late husband's estate in the Sussex.

Vicar Adam Sylvaine gave Evie a benefit of a doubt. He refused to believe the rumors that were spread by the ton. To Adam, Evie is a enigma that he need to figure out.

Evie was also quite surprised when her flirting did not get the usually response from men like Adam. The more times that they spread together platonic, the more, they are attracted to each other.

It is a wonderful story about strength to stand up against gossips and to stand by your convictions. The story did started out slow but it eventually picked up the pace with Evie and Adam fighting their attraction to each other. Each of them has discovered that they are not what people say they are.
