I hate the term "chick lit" and "beach read" because it's just such an awful bigoted thing. We don't call anything "dude lit". Anything written by a man, gearing toward a male audience who doesn't want to think too hard is just referred to as literature. That being said, for the sad and stereotyped genre of "Chick lit", Jennifer Weiner is actually a good writer. There are parts in this that are so hysterical, and parts that are so heartbreaking. The flaws are that the book takes on a kind of Romantic Comedy aspect sometimes, where certain solutions to problems pop up way too conveniently. Some supporting characters are just too cliche, like The Best Friend With No Life Of Her Own, the Crappy Ex Boyfriend, The Embarrassing Mother, The Good Man. But this book achieves its purpose, which is to sell, sell, sell. And give you a few entertaining hours.
