Another historical fiction novel with gothic elements from Kate Morton. Morton again uses the split narrative format with sections of the novel set in 2011, 1961, and 1941. Laurel Nicholson, a famous actress, is trying to learn more about her mother's past and why she stabbed and killed a man when Laurel was 16 in 1961. I enjoyed the brisk pace of the novel, and the 1940s love triangle. I found the twist surprising although there were clues scattered earlier in the story. Fans of Morton's previous work will enjoy this new novel.
