this book was alright, it's an easy read. sontag has some interesting comments about photography and how we view photos. her weak points are the threads of second wave feminism, i.e. anti-porn, woman as object of the viewer, etc., but given the publication date, i can excuse this. her ideas of the subject, the introduction of freaks as normal and how photography has normalized the marginalized was interlaced with a moralistic judgement about the decline of culture, but i think this book is well worth the read. it seems as though this book is important in photography theory, it is often referenced in other books.
