it was amazing

I was naturally drawn to this book, since I was married in Molokai. During my honeymoon, I stood on cliff face facing the settlement of Molokai, it looked like a peaceful sleepy town. I heard the history from the locals. The author really brought the story of those folks exiled to life in a work of fiction.

All the characters were really well developed and my heart ached for her as she suffered the loss of her family, exile, stigma of a disease, starting a new life, finding love and loss. What was more touching was knowing that although this story was a work of fiction, Rachel's story wasn't dissimilar to actual stories of residents. Wonderful read.
