Tumbleweeds is readable, but the ending was so out of left field that it killed any enjoyment I had in the story which had already been dying a slow death as the book went on and on.

It's got an old-fashioned feel to it, sort of as if it was written 50 or 60 years ago. That's not a problem. The book is about two boys and one girl who are best friends from the age of 11 on. It's not the most natural storytelling out there, but up until the turning point in their relationship, it's enjoyable. Frankly, I think the author didn't trust herself to keep the reader interested. The first calamity was fine. But the out of nowhere second? Brought what was a 3 star review to a 2 star one. By the time the final twist came out, I just didn't care anymore. It's a shame, because without all the soap opera machinations, this might have been a sweet book.
