The basic premise is that everything bad about you comes from negative things that happened around you as a foetus and young child; essentially before you became self-aware enough to have "psychic" defenses. This is the basis of Scientology and it is utter crap. A pseudo-lie-detector is used to administer a series of nebulous "test" which lead to a person becoming a "clear" and you are never given a clear idea of when you will attain this state. All earthly possessions must be surrendered to "The Church". This is a modern day cult plain and simple. I'd like to say you could arm yourself against these people by reading this book but quite frankly, if you read this book and manage to make sense of it, you are likely to be extremely sensitive to the techniques of brainwashing that this cult uses.

James Not true about the basic premise. There is mention of prenatals, but there is also mention of more recent painful emotional incidents, marraige break-ups, car accidents involving unconsciousness, etc. that can be helped with Dianetics. Your "review" is just a rehash of crap I've seen before. You never actually read the book, obviously. There is no mention of lie detectors or meters in the Dianetics book. All you need is the book, a friend and some intelligence. I think you lack all of the above.

James There is no "lie detector" when using this book. Did you read it? Not.
