This is a well researched and thoughtful book about fashion and clothing. Who would have ever thought about the long journey that little black dress has taken and how many highly important areas of our local, national and global economic, creative, and environmental issues it affects. Since the American Industrial Revolution the textile and fashion industry has been on a long and tortuous road. The U.S. is really not even in the game any longer. Asia and third world countries have hi-jacked the entire industry and world markets. The over all quality of design and fabric has declined to the point that we now consider the clothing that we buy as disposable. It is so cheap that you wear a piece a couple of times and if it hasn't ripped apart or faded upon washing it is then thrown out or given away. I won't even begin to get into where all those millions and millions of disposables end up. You will have to read the book. Did you know that your clothes are made of petroleum and plastic products? huhhh???????? How in the world has this happened. You must read this book and believe me you will never shop for that little black dress in the same frame of mind again. I highly recommend OverDressed: the shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion by Elizabeth Cline
