I really wanted to like this book more than I did. Lutes' art is excellent and he makes superb use of the peculiarities of the comic medium. The story is well-told, overall, but I found the first half of the book a bit dry: a rather large cast of characters is introduced and there isn’t much time to develop empathy or attachment with any of them. Thankfully, things pick up about halfway through the book and the story closes strong. I’ll probably check out the rest of the trilogy.
