The author, Lisa Scottoline, is known for her family stories with mysteries. This one is an excellent example of how she writes. She created a story of a divorced female pediatrician who loved her step-daughters as if they were her own. After a betrayal by her husband, she left with their daughter and moved on. The ex-husband wouldn't allow her to have any connection with her two step-daughters. One day she is shocked when one of the girls shows up on her doorstep with a story that is hard to comprehend. She gets caught up in trying to help. She risks her job, her engagement to another man and her safety. Just when the reader thinks it is over...it's not. If you want a book to keep you on the edge of your chair; this is the one for you.
