Jane Hayes has had a succession of boyfriends over her 33 years, but none has ever lived up to her obsession with Mr. Darcy, specifically Mr. Darcy as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaption of Pride and Prejudice. In her will an elderly aunt bequests Jane a 3-week vacation in “Austenland”, a rather secret regency era resort in England. Ladies of a particular class go there to experience Jane Austen’s era. Actors play characters similar to Ms. Austen’s characters. Although most vacationer’s visit to lose themselves in the Austen experience, Jane goes to try and rid herself of her obsessions. Well, as usual things don’t always go as the heroine plans.
This was a light fun read and Jane Austen fans would enjoy being immersed in “Austenland” with a modern twist.
