Since I'm not a fan of discovering the male adolescent experience, this began as an uninteresting read for me; the plot picks up about fifty pages in and the broader themes begin to appear and stick like flypaper.

This is a much better read than Salinger's CitR, and it has some more gritty realism to it. The omniscient narrator, howeever, made some of the transitioning difficult. It became difficult to relate to certain characters because so many of them were guiding the action. I do give this story kudos, however, for remaining true to a modicum of realism through to the conclusion.
