I read this book not too long after having read "Wicked." also by Maguire. I have to say that, while I did enjoy this book, I found it a little more tough to get through than "Wicked." His basic style was the same. He took the story of Cinderella and made it his own, changing the perspective to that of the ugly stepsisters. While I did find the characters in this book interesting, I did not find most of them very likeable. His realistic fairtale is also an allegory on the nature of beauty and ugliness(of appearance and character) which I found interesting, but not as much as I wanted to.
On the whole, I'd say "Stepsister" is worth the read, especially if you enjoy Maguire's style. Also, for some reason, I feel this book may appeal more to a woman's mind than to my own. Just a feeling.
