Interesting Scottish twist on the story of Jacob and Leah and Rachel. The story compelled me to keep reading as quickly as possible to determine how the author would portray some of the Biblical details. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed the book if setting aside my knowledge of the Biblical story, I was disappointed in the resolution. I can't really elaborate without huge spoilers so I will just say that this story took a huge turn from the Biblical events after the first half.
After thinking about it for a bit and comparing this plot to the Biblical story, I have to revise my review. IF this book was not a retelling of Jacob and Leah and Rachel's story, I probably would have enjoyed it. But, since it is a retelling and deviates so far from reality at the end, I have to give it a two star review. According to this book, Joseph and Benjamin never exist. Their existence is impossible with this retelling. And that has a LOT of implications.
I'm disappointed.
