The book starts when Allan climbs out of his bedroom window to avoid a 100th birthday party at the old people's home he reluctantly lives in. So he leaves, and in the course of his escape he purloins a suitcase that belongs to a gangster named Bolt...

The story is quirky and funny, and chapters detailing with Allan's adventures following his escape from the care home alternate with chapters relating Allan's life story. Allan has had an interesting life - he had travelled a great deal, and run into a lot of renowned political leaders. Most of whom had at one stage wanted to kill him.

However, I have rated this as 4 stars not 5 because of issues that may be down to the translation. Some sentences did not really make sense, and sometimes people's names were transposed. I did wonder if the dialogue in the Swedish version was better as well, because it varied from relaxed and flowing to stiff and formal.
