I would've liked this better if I didn't feel that Eco had planned it all out. I daresay the professor of semiotics shows himself too much, and I'm not such a fan of that figure. I'm in the business, after all, and though I am friends with some of my colleagues, I would prefer good, sincere criticism to a convoluted book of fiction-criticism.

The thing is, when Eco forgets himself, he is a superb writer. There are parts when the book flies. He can really write prose. I just don't like it when you try to tell me something about semiotics which I already know... it's boring, it's boring. I can't give away what it is or it'd be a spoiler -- but what a waste of knowledge!
