did not like it
bookshelves: public-library, abandoned
Read from September 30 to October 19, 2012

Picked up from the library today. After reading 4 books on iPad, It's gonna be weird to hold up a largish book again!

Update one week later: I have started this book twice, and it's just not grabbing me. Now, if I had an intimate knowledge of Berkeley/Oakland environs it might make a difference. Yeah, I dig the album references with the catalog numbers (though I've seen this before), but overall I'm having a hard time caring about these characters to want to know more of their story. Maybe it's me? Maybe it's the book? In any case, I will forge on, at least until the next update or until the book is due back to the library!

Returned to the library, abandoned.

message 1: by Suzeesg (new) - added it

Suzeesg too funny, 3 people have now told me about this book! I wonder if Todd was interviewed and didn't tell me.....

message 2: by Bob (new)

Bob Lloyd About a third through this and feeling the same way. having lived this in the seventies, not a pleasant reminder. loved other Chabon books.

patty Perfect quote from an amazon reader -- "A great novel should not be a chore to read."

patty Hey Bob - honestly, I'm not sure I'll even make it to the 1/3 point...especially since there's a new rock memoir ala Pete T to read soon!!!

patty And if one is to get ultra-picky, the cover is catchy but overall it's cheesy and I don't like it -- especially the font/placement of "avenue." I'm just sayin'....and I've met the author - I've even been to his house. I remain unbiased. LOL
