Jasper Fforde writes for people who read a lot.

The Fourth Bear is a book for people who don't mind asking silly questions about Goldilocks and the Three Bears, like "Why were Mommy Bear and Daddy Bear sleeping in separate beds?" or "How is it possible that three bowls of porridge poured from the same batch could all cool at separate rates?"

Jasper Fforde is here to answer those questions. And to do it in, quite possibly, the most complex way imaginable.
