it was amazing
bookshelves: something-new, best-mmanly

The strength of the Adrien English series can be attributed to many things, but none of them would work without the brilliant tension in the relationship between Adrien and Jake. I'll admit to having read the entire series before writing this review, and also disclose that I came back to write this one because I believe it's the crown jewel. Both men are so unbelievably flawed and their relationship is the ultimate exercise in repression. The action in this installment, among other things, forces so many of the things both have been trying to hide out into the open. It's sad, beautiful, and scary to watch and should not be missed by anyone who understands that part of what makes a great romance is having the opportunity to watch characters try to understand their own motivations. The sinister tone of the mystery plot makes it feel as if the entire plot is building towards something cataclysmic and it definitely, definitely is...
