This book was mostly a character study - not much action. But the problem was that I didn't really like any of them that much. All of the main characters were grappling with personal issues that were heightened by and examined in light of this death in their family. The most likable characters were the children, although it is unbelievable that at age six one could be so perceptive and intuitive. But I was also interested in the issues of the adults which mostly revolved around vastly different feelings about organized religion and its place in coping with death (or life for that matter). Interestingly, this book seemed to be more about people going through life coping with the things that people cope with and how death impacts and comlicates those exisiting issues versus a death creating issues that a family must deal with.
