What can I say? I have a soft spot for despicable, cynical, anti-heroes. But what strikes me most about A Hero of Our Time is how modern it feels - one feels it could easily have been written (though not as well) by Evelyn Waugh or Ernest Hemingway.

Stuart Yes! Angst in the back country is a timeless guy thing. Try Peter Mathaison (sic) and the snow leopard book.
