A real page-turner. The lives of six teenagers, three black and three white, are changed irrevocably by an encounter in 1972; years later, their lives cross again, with dramatic consequences. In addition to the excitement and suspense, Pelecanos captures the frustrations and angst of young men, black and white, the difficulties of racial reconciliation, and the hopelessness of the undereducated and underprivileged. I wish he had done it all without the excessive, overwhelming product and music specifics, but that's a quibble, and shouldn't keep anyone from reading this fine book.
