Oh, this was such fun!

Danny Boyle is a 24 year old part-time summer cop in a "sunderful" seaside town in New Jersey. He partners (i.e., drives around) John Ceepak, an Iraq war vet - he who walks around in a cargo pants with too many pockets and the Code. Danny has no code. But, for all his posturing, he looks up to Ceepak as the ultimate in cop-pery. They don't work much, their problems are limited mostly to stolen tricycles. But that's shot to hell and back when resident business tycoon Reggie Hart (like Donald Trump, only without the ridiculous combover) gets himself killed in a ride, with his daughter bearing sole witness to the crime. Danny and Ceepak investigate the case.

The book is a page-turner. There's plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing. But, what makes the book work for me is the buddy cop duo of Danny & Ceepak. Just precious. The narrator is Danny, and his voice is engaging. He has the kind of dopey, wise-ass humor that I'm a total sucker for. It was fantastic reading the plot twists and waiting for Danny's take on it. And John, the guy who shall do no wrong, is the perfect foil for Danny.

Was it perfect? No, but what a fun ride! I read this solely for a challenge, not knowing what to expect. I think I've found a series I will stick with. So thanks Suzanne for the rec!!
