I enjoyed The Sultan of Monte Cristo, the first in the new series of books that are a sequel to the Dumas classic. This book, actually book 6 (I have no idea why book 6 is being released before books 2-5),is set in the modern day. Zaydee, who has taken the name of her maternal great grandmother (readers of the original Monte Cristo will know who this is), is a powerful heroine to front a story. She's highly intelligent, stubborn and has a complicated past. The other main character is journalist Steven Larson, the love of her life, and the man she will protect at all costs so he can expose a terrifying conspiracy…Well, to say anything more than that will give away some of the plot twists.
