At 250 pages, this book falls far short of its jacket blurb. Described as a history of the life of Russias St Xenia, the story is told from the cold and dispassionate voice of a plain and unambitious cousin. Fails to engage on an emotional level and even leaves the opalescent excesses of Imperial Russia seeming plain and boring. Perhaps another 100 pages to help the characters develop and to pretty up the scenery.
