Easily the darkest of Trollope's novels that I've read so far. For older readers. It has some charming subplots and characters, upon which probably around half of the book is devoted, and possibly more. Excellent portrayal of a marriage that becomes deeply unhappy, because the husband becomes (literally) insanely jealous over a trifle that the wife refuses to admit is wrong.
