I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this book. On the one hand, I really do enjoy reading Nancy Horan. Her tone is pretty steady and she really does take you on a journey. My problem with the book was the lack of Mamah in the book. I understand that - that is the point! that she's always been trying to please other people and she's on a self discovery journey, but she's not a young girl so its frustrating to see a woman falling into these same traps. Overall though, I did think that Horan was able to convey pretty adequately that womens issues are timeless. Yes we now have the right to vote, but some of our taboo issues are the same especially when it comes to love vs. the children. ITs as if women are still seen as choosing while a man would just remarry and have that be the end of it.

I also had a bit of a problem with felt like the book completely skipped over how that happend. Then she was pregnant with Martha and we are suppose to believe that there was no inner conflict there . What happend between her aling in love and her getting pregnant? Also, Frank is a bit of a pansy. Yes love is complicated, love is diffult and confusing and when you're married sometimes its not as easy as just "leave her", but if catherine was always so smart and normal, then WHY would she not come to the house or speak to mamah after she found out? towards the end it just dragged on. I stopped turning the page.

I would however read mroe of Nancy HOran's book. As an author she has a great voice. I thnk the subject matter just didn't interest me as much. I love love stories but this was a little too much...
