How to describe such magnificent book except by saying that : it MUST be read. It is not a love story in the strictu sensu, on the contrary, it shows how love is close to hate. The plot engages us into the story of India still under British rule where a lot of social conventions and prejudice among other factors. The end still brings big and unexpected surprises, I won't spoil this fabulous end. There is sequel to this book, The Veil of Illusion.

Misfit You just check in with me when you hit page 260 or thereabouts and tell me if you saw THAT coming.

Laura ohhhh dear, I am planning to read during my travel to NZ, next Wednesday. Have you seen Ryman's biography?? I was just fighting to find something, take a look what I have found.....

Hannah Ohhh, I can't wait to see how you like O&J Laura!

Laura if it's like Zemindar, I will follow Misfit's advice....

Laura Misfit, we have another mystery to be clarified:

Valerie^Fitzgerald - author of Zemindar.

Valerie^^Fitzgerald - author of Heart and Sold.

I couldn't find her biography, seems to be a similar case as Rebecca Ryman.

Misfit Laura, to the best of my knowledge Valerie Fitzgerald of Zemindar only wrote the one book. I believe that Valerie is from Canada if that helps.

I do believe Ryman spent some time in India, someone found something on her at one time. I'll have to do some hunting. I know a reviewer at Amazon says it's an alter ego as it were of MM Kaye but that I do know is not the case.

Laura very strange the fact that we cannot find more biographical information from both of them.

Laura should we ask Tanzanite and Susan H??

Misfit Oooh, look at the foreign covers,

Laura they are simply great!! but the mystery about her real identity remains unsolved...

Misfit I'll post a thread over at HFO when I get a chance and see if anyone knows.

Laura great idea!!! Rikva have already fixed the problem of the 2 Valerie Fitzgerald here at GR.

Misfit Glad you liked it. What a twist in the middle, eh?

Laura unbelievable!! RR has a strong style of writing, like M.M. Kaye. And Olivia & Jai are very tough people: any time when they met each other, we already expect some explosion of emotions coming on.
Strange how Rebecca was so popular in Germany, isn't?? there must be some reason...another mystery to tease you??

Yea! Glad you enjoyed O &J, Laura. Whenever I need an India-fix, I go to this one, or a Kaye book.
(oh, and V. Fitzgerald will need to be added to the mix with Zemindar).

Laura what a wonderful book, isn't it? Have you read Zemindar as well?

Laura thanks S J

Laura thanks Asma
