Call me silly, but I was all kinds of excited about this book, as the dedication mentions David Tennant, and the cover illustration looks more than a little like him... Plus, I adore roguish wizards. Unfortunately, this book couldn't decide if it was comedic and fun or dark and epic. The "hero" was a bit whiny for my taste. However, the female characters were particularly strong and well drawn-out. I look forward to reading the remaining two books in the trilogy.
